This Early Look Data Brief presents key preliminary estimates relevant to the community-dwelling Medicare population in advance of the upcoming MCBS 2018 Survey File LDS release anticipated in June 2020.  Using preliminary data from the 2018 MCBS Survey File, the Early Look presents a demographic portrait of the Medicare population residing in the community. • In 2018, almost thirty percent of community-dwelling Medicare beneficiaries report serious difficulty walking or climbing stairs.
  • In 2018, eighteen percent of community-dwelling Medicare beneficiaries report serious difficulty with concentrating, remembering, or making decisions.
  • In 2018, although the majority of community-dwelling Medicare beneficiaries report English as their primary language spoken at home, twelve percent report that their primary language is other than English.
